Technology

Technology is an integral part of my teaching curriculum. I feel that technology can enhance what I am teaching in my fifth grade classroom. I truly believe that by teaching my students technology skills, that they will be better prepared in the future to learn more complex technology skills. Some of the skills that I will be working on this year are opening and saving a document, logging onto and off of the computers using passwords, entering an address on the Internet (with supervision), enhancing typing skills, and using different programs. ActivInspire, Kidspiration, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint are the main programs that I will be using and teaching the students how to use in my classroom. The students will also be able to access kid friendly sites during computer time. The sites that the students will be allowed to access are located in Tadpole Central.

Our classroom is lucky to have a Promethean Board! The Promethean Board will be used on a daily basis. Students will be assigned an ActivExpression. The ActivExpression is an interactive handheld device. The students will be using the ActivExpressions on daily assignments and to take quizzes. Along with the ActivExpressions, we have an ActiView. This is a document camera that will allow demonstrates during lessons.

Our classroom has other forms of technology available! We have three digital cameras that the students will be allowed to use. We also have two student computers located in our classroom. Students will be able to take Accelerated Reader quizzes anytime during the day as long as we aren't in the middle of lessons. For our science unit, we will be using microscopes. The microscopes were donated to our classroom through Donors Choose about 4 years ago.

As you can tell, technology will be used in our classroom on a daily basis.

It is very important that your child has a technology agreement with the Logansport Community School Corporation. If they do not have this agreement stating that they may use the Internet, they will not be allowed to access any programs on the Internet. Please talk to me as soon as possible about any concerns that you may have about your child using the Internet in my classroom. Please be aware that your child WILL NOT be allowed to "surf" the net on their own. All websites will be accessed and approved by me before the students will be allowed to use the site.

For Teachers: I have added sections dealing with how I use different programs in my classroom. I have added links to other websites that can help you even further in implementing technology in your classroom. I will be adding work examples from the students that we do in our classroom. If you should ever have any questions about any of the projects that we are doing, please feel free to e-mail at cobbj@lcsc.k12.in.us. I will be happy to assist anyway that I can.
