Frog Ideas

On this page, you will be able to find some neat ideas for frogs. Many of these ideas are mine, and many are other teachers' ideas.

F.R.O.G Binders

I have been using F.R.O.G. Binders for several years now, though I do use them a little bit differently than I did when I first started.  I have found that since I have switched to fifth grade, I have had to change how I use these binders in my classroom. For instances, I do not use the Communication Log anymore, because my fifth graders have an assignment book. I communicate with my parents in the assignment book. I have also added a data section as my school corporation want the students to keep track of different types of data such as attendance, homework, spelling, and a lot more.

My F.R.O.G Binders are an adaptation of M.O.O.S.E binders which can be found in more detail on the Teaching Heart website. Many of these sheets were created after researching different worksheets that other teachers had developed. Click on the links below to be taken to the labels, cover page, and rules page that I will be using this year. The graphics on these documents are taken from Cute Colors. Be sure to check this site out. You can find out how I use these ideas by visiting my F.R.O.G. Binders page

Frog Parts of Speech Bulletin Board

The PDF files listed below were created by me using The Printshop Deluxe by Broderbund and MS Paint. I created this bulletin board set because I was looking for parts of speech that had a certain look. I could not find what I liked so I decided to make my own. The frogs are different colors, because they are color-coded to match my word wall board in my classroom.  Enjoy!

Kermit the Frog Journal

Since my classroom theme is going to be frogs this coming up school year, I decided that we needed a mascot. Who better to our classroom mascot than Kermit the Frog? Each night Kermit and his little suitcase (in the suitcase will be Kermit's journal, pencils, & crayons) will go home with one student. The student will then be responsible to write in the journal (pretending they are Kermit) and tell what Kermit did with them that night. The next morning, I am going to have the students share what Kermit did with them. Please check back when school starts, I will be posting pictures of Kermit, his suitcase, and journal. I will also share what Kermit has done with my students.

I no longer use Kermit in my classroom. I felt that using Kermit would be too young for my fifth grade class, but I have had former second graders who became my students in fifth grade, remembered Kermit fondly. If you are a teacher of primary students, I highly recommend Kermit!

Frog Behavior Bucks

Each month my students are able to "buy" items from store with the behavior bucks that they earn throughout the month. The students earn 5 behavior bucks for 5 days of not moving their frog on the behavior board, 3 bucks for 4 days, 1 buck for 3 days. If they only have 2 days of good behavior they owe me 1 buck, 1 day of good behavior they owe me 3 bucks, and for 0 days of good behavior they owe me 5 bucks. We keep track of how many days they have gone without moving their frogs to the lily pads by using a behavior chart. It they can go one complete month without ever having to move their frog they receive a special treat (candy bar, pop, etc.). I have used this system for several years and it has worked wonderfully. In the past I have used tickets, but decided  this year we would use "money" instead. Below are PDF files of the "money" that I will be using this year. I am planning on printing my "money" on different colored paper just so I can easily tell the different values apart.

$1 Behavior Buck $5 Behavior Buck
$10 Behavior Buck $20 Behavior Buck
$50 Behavior Buck $100 Behavior Buck
